Administration

Mr. Warren

Welcome and thank you for visiting our school’s website!
My name is Dexter Warren and it is a pleasure to serve as the principal at Indian Lakes Elementary School (ILES). Prior to transitioning to Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS), I was an educator in both Isle of Wight County Public Schools, and Franklin City Public Schools.  During my tenure as an educator prior to arriving to VBCPS I held positions as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.

I am proud to now be a thunderbird and continue the success at Indian Lakes Elementary School.  Here we strive for excellence and it has been proven over the years by meeting the high expectations set by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).  We provide learning opportunities to children of various ages ranging from our Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) program through fifth grade. At ILES our students are taught by some of the best educators in the state of Virginia. Each school year approximately 600 students attend ILES.  Our goal at ILES is to work together as a team to meet all students’ educational and social-emotional needs.  We are growing in so many ways, and this would not be possible without the support of our families, community members, staff, and students.  At Indian Lakes Elementary School, students’ success is truly a team effort!  Our mission at ILES is to ensure that each child has a safe and nurturing learning environment to cultivate his or her maximum potential.  We welcome you to our thunderbird family!

Sincerely,

Dexter Warren

             Ms. Moore

At Indian Lakes Elementary school, we are consistently learning new concepts and discovering strengths and skills that we did not know we had.  We focus on the positive and set goals for areas that we need to work on.  "Can't" is temporary, and simply means we have not mastered "yet."

We welcome each new and returning Thunderbird family as we face new challenges that the school year brings. We will consistently face and adapt as changes are required. The mission of Indian Lakes is to continue to provide opportunities for students to explore and master academic skills while supporting social and emotional needs, as well.  There will always be challenges ahead of us, but it is important to recognize that those challenges are there to give us a chance to build character, learn, and grow.

I have been an educator with VBCPS for 10 years. I started teaching Early Childhood Special Education and moved into a Program Compliance Special Education teaching position before moving to Indian Lakes Elementary as an Assistant Principal. I am proud to be serving in the same public school system that I graduated, Floyd E. Kellam High School. I am also a graduate of Old Dominion University.  I have a wonderful and supportive family with three sons.

I believe that with a positive attitude, a growth mindset, and good character anyone can achieve great things.  I strive to instill those qualities in our young people and to be a positive role model.  We are all here to learn together.  It is my goal to provide a safe and nurturing educational environment that challenges our students to reach beyond their expectations to become lifelong learners who will make the world a better place.  I am excited about the possibilities that this school year will bring and proud to be a Thunderbird.

Sincerely,

Tammy Moore
